Keeping the City Moving

The construction of the new cultural centre is an important project for the City and the Borough and will contribute £16.9M a year to the local economy. However, we are mindful of the interim effect the construction works may have on local businesses and residents.
As you can imagine any building project, in a constrained city centre location, requires a super-efficient construction programme where materials are delivered to the site as and when required on a just in time basis.
Over the last few months we have been consulting with the Council’s transport team, as well as the bus companies, our construction partners, local businesses and residents to agree the most suitable way of getting large deliveries to site.
The following strategy has been agreed which involves the temporary closure of Hunter Street.

Hunter Street will be closed to traffic on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am – 3pm.

This will take effect from Tuesday 30th June 2015 and will continue to the end of the year.

Please note, during this period buses will be diverted up Princess Street from St Martins Way.

It is likely the road closures will continue throughout 2015. We will advise the public if further closures are required during 2016.
